The Strange Case
of Based on the world-famous horror novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, this gothic melodrama tells the story of Dr. Henry Jekyll, an obsessed doctor who creates "...two elixirs. One brings out the evil side of the human brain and the other, an antidote which sends it back so that all inclination toward violence is completely submerged." He longs to create a a world without violence; a world without crime. But, when no reputable hospital will allow him to test his elixers on humans, Dr. Jekyll feels he has no choice but to use himself as his test subject, unleashing the violent and evil Mr. Hyde on the streets of London. This interpretation of Stevenson's classic story remains true to the source material while exploring new twists to speak to a modern audience. The script is by local author Joe Edkin (who will also be directing the production) and Stan Barber (who directed the world premiere in 1997 at the Pax Amicus Theatre in Budd Lake, NJ). Parents are cautioned that this production is not suitable for young children.
