ELMIRA LITTLE THEATRE'S ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR CHAPTER TWO BY NEIL SIMON
Elmira Little Theatre will hold auditions for Neil Simon's Chapter Two on Sunday, November 5th, from 1pm to 4pm, and on Monday, November 6th, from 6pm to 9pm at the ELT Building, 1000 Laurel Street in Elmira. The cast requires two men in the 40s to 50s and two women in their 30s. The production will be directed by Mike Lavarnway, who directed ELT's recent presentation of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap. Performance dates for the show are February 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10, 2007 at the Clemens Center's Mandeville Hall. Chapter Two is considered by many to be Neil Simon's most personal, auto-biographical play. It tells of the story of George Schneider, a recent widower after a 12 year marriage, and of Jennie Malone, who is recently divorced. By chance, these two people come together in a funny and touching romance. But will George be able move beyond the ghost of his late wife? Will Jennie become part of George's life as she wants to? Will these two be able to find a space where their relationship will fourish? And what about George's brother Leo and Jennie's friend Faye? Where will their own marital troubles lead them? According to director Mike Lavarnway, "In this play, every part is a gem and offers actors everything to showcase their talents. Complex characters, touching personal stories, hilarious revelations and of course, Neil Simon's legendary repartee." With a small cast, Lavarnway anticipates working closely with each actor to develop characters with depth such that the audience will empathize with them and see them as complete, vulnerable human beings. "This play really is about the emotional ebb and flow of a newly formed romantic relationship," Lavarnway explained. "It covers the giddy delight of that first discovery of love through the difficult, even painful, adjustments a couple faces when trying to leave behind the past and embrace their future." Auditions for Chapter Two will take place Sunday, November 5th, from 1pm to 4pm, and on Monday, November 6th, from 6pm to 9pm at the ELT Building located on the corner of Pennsylvania Ave. and Laurel St. in Elmira.
